Car Window Tinting
how to get tint on your wheels hella nice
1. What is Window Tinting
Window tinting is a film that is adhered to your vehicle windows that reduce the amount of sun that shines through. Depending on how dark the tint is, will determine how much light is filtered. Not only does this tinting have a functional purpose, but it also adds to the overall look of the vehicle. Many people choose to have this upgrade installed on their vehicle. It gives a nice finish to any make or model vehicle. Also, the tinting allows for some privacy to be had by those that are riding in the passenger seats.
2. Why You Benefit From Tinting
There are many reasons to have tinting put on your windows. This helps to reduce glare that comes through the glass and onto passengers. It can make riding in the car more enjoyable, especially for younger children that do not wear sunglasses. With the shade provided by the darker windows, the seats will not become as hot to the touch. This keeps passengers from burning their legs as badly on a hot summer day. Another big reason to get your windows tinted, and likely the biggest, is for the sake of your upholstery. Keeping your seats from aging, cracking, and fading will help your vehicle stay in good condition.
3. New York Regulation
Windows that have been tinted in Long Island, Nassau County, Suffolk County or other parts of New York must meet tinting regulations. The darkness of the film is measured by the percentage of Visible Light Transmission (VLT). VLT is the amount of light that is able to shine through the tinted windows. These regulations are different depending on whether you drive a sedan, SUV, or van.
4. Here is a look at the current regulations
In a sedan, the front and back side windows must let in at least 70% light. On the windshield, there is a 6 inch allowance for non-reflective tint at the top of the window. Rear windows can have any darkness applied that is desired.
SUV’s and Vans
For SUV’s and vans, the front side windows need to let in 70% light or more. The back side windows and rear window can have any shade applied. There is no limit for those windows. The front windshield can have a 6 inch non-reflective tint applied.
